What's new

There hasn't been much action going on on this blog lately and I apologize to all my blog readers for that. But here I am again so no need to worry.

Fashion fall in Stockholm is getting started and I love walking in the streets at lunch time when the streets are filled with office girls grabbing a bite to eat. A clear trend in Stockholm right now is the dark waist-high pencil skirt, a tucked in blouse and high heels or ballerina shoes. When the weather demands it, black tights are perfect with the pencil skirt, even if you are wearing shoes in another color than black. When looking for the perfect pencil skirt, make sure you are comfortable in it and that it doesn't feel/look too tight in order for to feel confident in your beautiful feminine look.

The outfit in the top right corner is by designer Ted Baker and both skirts can
be bought at Asos.com

If you stroll down Drottningatan in Stockholm you might see ladies wearing shoes such as these, which can be purchased at H&M stores or online a hm.com

Happy Yellow

To me, rusty red, orange and bright yellow are the colors of the month August. Although I don't wear it very often, yellow is a favorite since it is that kind of a color that brightens up your day and gives you and everyone around you a shot of energy. Now you might add that yellow doesn't suit every one being that some skin tones just don't mix well with yellow. And I will agree with you on that. You do need to take your own skin tone in consideration before pulling a yellow shirt over your head. I can say that since I know that only certain shades of yellow work on me. There is a yellow out there for you, just keep on looking. And if you belong to the lucky few who have acquired a sun tan- now is the perfect time to step into happy yellow.

This vintage style blouse from Asos is adds a soft edge to any outfit.

If you are still enjoying summer, don't miss this happy yellow skirt from Dorothy Perkins.

Still not convinced that yellow is a color you could pull off? Dare to think A-C-C-E-S-S-O-R-I-E-S.

If you happen to live near a H&M store, they have cute slouch bags and other mustard yellow accessories in season. For the online version, checkout Topshops Buckle Slouch Bag found here.

A dress for a Princess

Yesterday's headline in Sweden was the announcement of the engagement of our princess Madeleine Bernadotte to her dashing young lawyer boyfriend Jonas. Madeleine is the youngest in the Swedish Royal family and now she can join her older sister crown princess Victoria, who will be queen of Sweden, in the preparations for the weddings to come. Crown Princess Victoria's will beat her little sister to the alter as she is marrying Daniel, her former personal trainer, in June 2010.

I am impressed with the dress the princess wore when when she met the press and public to pronounce her happy news. The silk tierd dress glances back to the styles of the 1920's and 1950's and it's girlish collar reminds me of my childhood Sunday dresses. I sure hope dresses like these will become popular and accessable to ordinary people with ordinary clothing budgets. After all, this dress is from the italian fashion house of Fendi. It can be purchased online at net-a-porter.com

My best budget tip to find a dress similar to the princess's is to rummage through thift stores (second hand stores) in your city. You never know, it could be your lucky day!

The Graphic Tee

Most fashion stores and magazines are now featuring the Fall Look and presenting the collection for the upcoming season. But I am just not done with summer yet to start thinking that this perfect time of year will be coming to an end. So what you'll be seeing these next couple of posts are more ideas for your summer wardrobe.

A staple in the wardrobe of every woman who loves to kick back and relax is the cool and relaxed t-shirt, known as the graphic tee. My favorite graphic tee to wear this summer is the tee to the right from Zara (looks great with a stretchy black skirt and a black cardigan!). And yes, I do love my city Stockholm.

Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins and Forever 21 are other stores with cool t-shirts. Below you find H&M:s take on the graphic tee. Layer them with longer sleeved t-shirts under and wear over a straight casual skirt. A super-trendy look is to wear the tee under a black blazer or with a open vest over it.

These tees can be purchased online at www.hm.com if you live in Sweden. Have fun!

How to wear the summer dress

One of the best things about summer is that you get to wear those lightweight cotton dresses that keep you cool when the temperature rises. To wear these dresses without showing too much flesh can be a little tricky as the clothing manufacturers seldom have modesty considerations in mind. So finding the perfect summer dress requires a little determination and creativity.

Here are some of my favorite maxi-dresses available for purchase right now at Forever 21.

1. Pull the dress high and wear a jacket or a short cardigan, a shrug, over the dress. To make sure the dress stays high, pin it with saftey pins to the bra strap.
2. Wear a thin fitting basic t-shirt under the dress.

These are cute items to wear over summmer dresses as shown above, also from Forever 21.

I like these cardigans from Gap as well.

Top it off with gladiator sandals for a Summer 2009 look!

The Navy Look

This sunny day was spent on the docks of a fishing village on the west coast. The ocean breeze brought many sailboats and motorboats to stay in the bay, filling up the village with shopping and ice-cream eating Norwiegans, Swedes and Americans. I love the navy look you find popular in these coastal villages, people dressed in white and dark blue with the occasional red and beige.

For your own coastal village look, choose this top from Banana Republic and skirt from Dorothy Perkins.

Or pull this t-shirt or cardigan from Asos.com or striped shirt from Dorothy Perkins over your favorite white jeanskirt for a more relaxed ocean expression.

Ohoy, sailor!

French designers

Coco Chanel is known to have created the classic feminine look when she made her jacket and skirt wearable for the modern woman.

Today France is still a lead player in creating the styles that hit the streets. Below you find an eclectic skirt and dress by René Derhy that can be purchased at the French clothing company La Redoute www.laredoute.com

This skirt allows for many different combinations on top. For a casual look wear jean jacket (or even trendier, a red leather jacket) with a red t-shirt/tank top under or tuck a classic button down shirt in any of the colors found in the skirt.

This dress with a purple tank top under (or a tank top in the color of your choice) and boots you'll be ready for fall in modestyle in no time.
